A Midsummer's Update - DragonCon, Pirate Pride, Live Album, and Faire
It's already August and Wakefire has had a magnificent summer so far, with appearances at Sleepy Hollow Renaissance Faire in Iowa (the farthest from home we've traveled yet!), Motor City Irish Festival (recording the tracks that will become our First Ever Live Album!), and Witwen Summer Concert Series (a phenomenal community concert series that we were honored to be a part of!). We want to extend a big thank you to the show-runners and volunteers of each of these great shows, for having us out and taking great care of us while we were there, and of course, to the audience and attendees who came out to enjoy the show - we couldn't do it without you, and each time we were greeted with the friendliest, most enthusiastic audiences we could have hoped for!
Our time at Sleep Hollow's Spring Fling serendipitously introduced us to two of the finest acts we've seen at Ren Faires in our career, and we decided then and there that we simply HAD to see them again (and hopefully let all our fans see them, too!) This began a plan, a plot, an entire shenanigan, even - to host a show at the Blind Pig and invite them out to play with us. So mark your calendars for October 19th! Bess and Marley is a brilliant folk duo with beautiful and compelling tunes that'll make you nostalgic for the renaissance festivals of your youth. Ship Shape is a lively and hilarious group of lady pirates who will have you in stitches with their antics, only to make your jaw drop with their three-part harmonies! Together they are a force to be reckoned with, as powerful a pair as Blackbeard & Stede Bonnet, (and at least twice as racy) and we're glad they're on our side. And of course, what theme could we POSSIBLY have but Pirate Pride? We know our fans are good at dressing to a theme, and we are looking forward to a full venue of our best and most open and accepting friends, doing what we do best - being gay and doing . . . uh, piracy!!
Both these groups have released new albums over the summer, and we encourage you to check them out and follow them on their socials! Ship Shape Bess and Marley
At Motor City Irish Festival, we had an even better time than we could have imagined, enjoying the other performances, browsing the vendors, and finishing out the evening in the rain with our own show. We can't tell you how much it means to us to have you all come out, stay through drizzle and downpour, and keep up the energy while we recorded our first-ever live album!! That album is now in production, with an expected release of late summer/early fall - we'll be sure to post it here and on our socials when it is available. But I have to say - we've been working with Solid Sound Recording Co. and it is gonna sound INCREDIBLE - in no small part because of the energy YOU all brought!
We're already getting ready for our appearances at DragonCon in Atlanta, GA this coming Labor Day weekend! We can't wait to see all our geektastic fans at this giant nerdfest, where we'll be partying with Hobbits and rocking the socks off Star Wars and Star Trek fans alike at our main stage and concourse shows. We'll post our schedule as soon as we have it, so keep your eyes open, and make sure to come visit us at our table in the Marriott lower level to see what new merchandise we have available! (pst, have you SEEN our new Tees? They are magical and designed by our own bassist, Russ Turner.)
We are sad to announce that we will not be performing this season at the Michigan Renaissance Festival in Holly, MI. We maintain an excellent relationship with our home faire, and if we can swing a special weekend or two we'll be looking into it, but this has been a busy summer for Wakefire's members, both personally and professionally, and we were unable to commit to the full run. We hope you all have a fantastic season, and say hi if you run into us wandering the faire incognito! That's all for now, cheers and check out our Upcoming Shows page for more info! Can't wait to see you there!
